Experience space like never before! A one-woman show about the second American woman in space.

Be transported back to the 1980s and meet Judy Resnik. With a PhD in electrical engineering, she is wholeheartedly committed to creating the very first robotic arm for space. She becomes the second American female astronaut. Who was this brilliant engineer, who was often portrayed by the outside world as just a beautiful woman?

‘You’re too cute to be an astronaut’ is a journey through time and space. From the moment NASA selects candidates for the Space Shuttle program, through the grueling training and media circus surrounding the first female astronauts, to the nail-biting launch of the Space Shuttle on January 28, 1986. Millions are glued to their screens. And then, this space journey takes an unexpected turn.

Based on thorough research and featuring original NASA sound recordings, Judy Lijdsman (partially in Dutch, partially in English) performs a stand-up biography that lets you experience space travel like never before. A story about ambition, the beauty and risks of manned spaceflight, and, between the lines, an urgent plea for equality. Judy Lijdsman is an actress and theater maker. After a career as a dancer, she turned to acting and writing. ‘You’re too cute to be an astronaut’ is her solo debut.

“Astronauts don’t have to be either very feminine or very masculine women or very superhuman males, or any color or anything. It’s about people in space.”

(Judy Resnik)

Previously written about Judy Lijdsman:

“Judy has a strong stage presence. She has an open attitude, and the jury is curious about her story. She has the ability to tell a story and to win people over.” (jury report, Amsterdam Cabaret Festival)
