Jacobo Domingo is the new Business Development Manager at SBIC Noordwijk. With a strong entrepreneurial mindset and rich experience in the space tech startup world, Jacobo relocated from Spain to join SBIC in mid-2024 as the primary contact of the ESA Technology Broker for the Netherlands. In this role, he is committed to promoting technology transfer and fostering collaboration with non-space industries. Additionally, Jacobo’s job involves scouting talent for SBIC programmes and offering business support to ESA BIC startups. Outside of his professional endeavours, Jacobo is an avid nature explorer, enjoys travelling, and appreciates good music.
Journey to this new Space Tech Position
Jacobo’s path to joining SBIC Noordwijk is rooted in his diverse background in technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. His journey includes an engineering education, the experience of founding a startup that is an alumnus of ESA BIC Denmark, and involvement in venture-building innovation labs. “I believe it is this unique combination of skills and disciplines that makes me the ideal candidate for this role,” Jacobo explains. His extensive experience in understanding how technology can transfer and bring value to various industries, coupled with his passion for creating a positive environmental impact, sets him apart. “My lifelong interest in space and its intricate mysteries makes me ready to take on the role of Technology Broker in the Netherlands,” he adds.
Anticipating Exciting Synergies and Creative Collaborations
One of the aspects Jacobo is most enthusiastic about in his new position is the unique opportunity to work on the broker programme and, alongside that, provide business support to startups within the ESA BIC programme. “Being able to bring these two fronts together can create a lot of interesting synergies between startups in the space sector in the Netherlands and non-space companies, Dutch and beyond,” he notes. Jacobo is particularly excited about the creative prospects that come with the broker role, especially in identifying opportunities for collaboration across different companies and industries. “Harnessing the power of space to create a positive impact is my goal. I believe it is time we gain perspective, look at our planet from the stars, and find solutions to tackle our climate crisis,” he passionately states.
Bridging the Space and Non-Space Communities
Jacobo is eager to connect with both space and non-space communities, offering a bridge between the two. “The community can reach out to me if you are a company in the space sector looking to adapt your solutions for terrestrial applications, or if you are a non-space company interested in exploring space-related technologies and innovations,” he invites. Jacobo is committed to supporting early-stage space startups in developing their ideas and growing their businesses. “I am always open to meeting over a cup of tea to discuss how we can push the boundaries of innovation together and create lasting, positive impacts on our planet,” he says. His goal is to facilitate connections, provide guidance, and drive meaningful collaborations that benefit both the space sector and wider industries.
In his role as the main contact of the ESA Technology Broker NL, Jacobo stands ready to be a catalyst for innovation, a bridge between industries, and a champion for sustainable, space-inspired solutions.
