Application ProcessÂ
Q: Who can apply for the LDE NL Space Campus Summer School?Â
A: The Summer School is open to students who have studied at least one year and young professionals up until the year of 30. You don’t need any prior knowledge of space. The programme is designed for students with diverse interests and backgrounds who are eager to learn about the space industry. The space industry is changing and different backgrounds are very welcomed in the industry. Do not hesitate to apply if your interested!
Q: What are the criteria for participation?Â
A: You need to have a valid ID (passport), bring your passport, and be at least a first-year student at a European Institution. It’s okay if you’ve just finished your exams. Young professionals until the age of 30 are now also welcome. If you are a non-european citizen, please send an email to the organisation with your nationality. Unfortunately there are some locations that have very strict rules for entering certain locations, and we want to offer you the best experience possible.Â
Q: How do I apply?Â
A: If you meet the criteria, you can apply through the website and offer a short motivation and background information. Once your application is confirmed with us, you will receive a confirmation email with a registration link. Only after paying the registration fee, your spot will be confirmed.Â
Schedule, Locations, and AccommodationsÂ
Q: What does the schedule look like?Â
A: The first day on Sunday starts at 12:00 CET. Days usually offer a programme from 9:00 till 19:00. The schedule includes visits to companies and university locations, workshops, and project work. Each day is packed with activities and learning opportunities. A detailed schedule will be shared with participants upfront. The official programme ends on Friday at 20:00. Afterwards you will be brought to the afterparty location near Leiden Central Station. The afterparty is arranged until 00:00. It is up to you if you join the afterparty.Â
Q: Are meals and transportation included?Â
A: The registration fee covers most meals and transportation as indicated in the schedule. Breakfast is not included. For some locations, you are asked to walk or take public transport. If you have limited mobility, please contact the organisers to arrange alternative transportation.
Q: What about accommodation?Â
A: There is no accomodation included. Participants need to find their accommodation. We recommend staying in Leiden, Delft or Den Haag. Hotels in Leiden cost around €100 per night, such as the Ibis Budget Hotel next to the Leiden Central Station. You can also explore cheaper options or share rooms with other participants. About one week in advance a whatsapp group will be made and you can contact your fellow classmates.Â
Participation and Expectations
Â
Q: What do I need to bring?Â
A: You need a valid ID, professional clothing for certain days, and a laptop (except on the first day).Â
Q: What do I get out of the summer school?Â
A: You’ll receive a certificate, a mission patch, and the opportunity to build your resume and career. More importantly, you’ll build relationships and network within the space industry. Find out more what the Summer School offered old students here.Â
Q: Can I miss a part of the schedule?Â
A: It’s okay if you need to miss a session for a valid reason, such as an exam or a mandatory presentation. However, we encourage full participation to maximize your experience and benefits from the programme. In our experience, students turn out not to want to miss anything. If you have specific concerns, please talk to the team, and we’ll try to accommodate your needs.Â
Q: What if I have a specific dietary requirement?Â
A: Please inform us of any dietary requirements during the registration process, and we will do our best to accommodate them. Vegetarian and dairy free meals are included.
Q: What kind of projects will we be working on?Â
A: Projects will cover various topics like drones, space instrumentation, satellite data, space business, space law, and earth observation. You will have the freedom to choose a project that interests you.Â
Funding and RefundÂ
Q: Are there scholarships available?Â
A: Currently, there are no scholarships available as the programme is already largely subsidised by the NL Space Campus. However, this may change in future editions.Â
Q: Is the registration fee refundable if I cannot find accommodation or need to cancel?Â
A: The registration fee is generally non-refundable. We advise finding accommodation before paying the registration fee to avoid any issues. However, in specific exceptional circumstances, such as unforeseen personal emergencies, we might consider refunds on a case-by-case basis. Since our process isn’t equipped for easy refunds, it’s best to confirm all your arrangements before finalizing your payment. In our experience, students usually have no trouble finding accomodation.Â
Additional QuestionsÂ
Q: What should I do if I have more questions?Â
A: If you have any questions, please read the website www.ldenlspacecampussummerschool.nl. If you still have no answer to your question, you can send an email to summerschool@nlspacecampus.eu. We will be happy to assist you.Â
